A Bathroom to Die For…

You know your primary bath needs a makeover when the shower leaks all over your collection of imported cars. That’s why a busy professional couple counted on John Robert Wiltgen Design, Inc. to come to their rescue.

While the homeowners didn’t have specific ideas, we took our cues from both; the woman, a fashionista who works in the clothing industry, and her husband, a trader, who has always appreciated exceptional design. The result? An ultra-chic fashion-forward look featuring low maintenance amenities.

Their primary bath is the size of the family’s two and a half car garage. This provided us with many advantages. But it also created some challenges. For example, to contend with the cold floors we provided an electric heat flooring system. To eliminate the humidity and moisture that clung to the ceiling, we installed extra exhaust fans.

Working with the existing architecture, we created a glamorous spa-like setting by selecting a combination of finishes for the double bowl vanity. (Usually I avoid double bowls because the second sink takes up valuable counter top and storage space. However, in this bathroom, that wasn’t a problem.) The flooring is predominantly porcelain with an inlay of pebbles; walking on it is like getting a foot massage. The chandelier and sconces are major decorative elements that really introduce style.

A variety of sources provide lighting. In addition to the sconces and chandelier, acrylic mirrors (backlit with LED tape) float off the mirrored wall. Under the cabinet, lighting accents the change from the floating cabinets to the sink bases, which sit on the floor. Recessed lights were strategically placed to provide additional illumination. A large skylight floods the room with daylight and moonlight.

For moments of private pampering, her make-up table provides abundant additional built-in storage.

Slabs of Inca Gold stone line the oversize shower enclosure. Two (2) one-piece “shower towers” include showerheads, body sprays and hand held personal showers. The six foot long teak bench provides ample seating. The baseboards and countertops throughout are Crema Marfil quartz.

Both the tub and bench are functional works of art that enhance our design concept.
